Scholarship winner of 2003, 17-year old Telma Alonzo stands on the right side, with Gloria García on the left. Telma is an indigenous Mam Mayan – a regional leader for the rights of children who has represented her community in national conferences on human rights. She wants to become a doctor so she can serve her community. In 2002, Telma went to the U.N. in New York City to represent Guatemalan children and help present specific demands for the respect of rights for children. At this moment we do not have photos of our newest scholarship winner, Seydi Cecilia Bernardez from Honduras. Check back later this year for her photo and more information about her studies and work in support of Honduran garifuna communities. |
